A real pleasure to be Lorian & Carl’s photographer at their Sheffield wedding.
A nostalgic wedding at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception
Lorian and Carl met at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception in Rotherham nearly five years previous to getting married, so they thought it apt to have the service there, despite the two of them now living in London! Lorian worked helping refugees in the local area, and met Carl during one of these programmes. Father Desmond Sexton greeted guests on their arrival and assured Carl she would arrive, despite pushing the Bride’s perogative for time-keeping!
Plenty of guests made the long trip up from London and whilst St. Mary’s could never be described as a grand venue, it’s cosiness and importance to the couple ensured it felt extra special on the day. A first for me was ladies singing a traditional Iraqi wedding celebratory call towards the end of the ceremony! A number of group shots completed our time at the church and then time for the short drive to Sheffield city centre.
Winter Wedding at the Leopold Hotel
The Leopold Hotel is unique in Sheffield in that it is the only four star boutique hotel in the city. This historic venue has been recently refurbished but retains all of it’s architectual splendour. With ninety rooms, all en-suite, coupled with professional and courteous staff, it is the perfect venue for a city-centre wedding and to be a Leopold Hotel wedding photographer. The camera opportunities to shoot here are many and varied.
Having covered city centre weddings across the north of England, the Leopold is surely one of the most impressive urban wedding venues in Yorkshire. Newlyweds Lorian and Carl were relaxed and celebrated whilst having their photo taken around the corridors and rooms of the property.
The couple had plans for a few photos across Leopold Square before entering the venue, and whilst it wasn’t a bitterly cold evening, the Yorkshire rain made the idea unappealing. Guests gathered in the lounge area of the Leopold Hotel by the reception area whilst the couple took a little time out to get more photos around the nooks and crannies of the venue.
As we went into the evening, the families and friends of the couple settled in to the grand dining room and after a Best Man’s speech were ready for a fantastic wedding breakfast. The panelling and details of this room are beautiful, with chandeliers and a grand fireplace the focal point of this dining area.
Lorian and Carl were intending on a low-key private evening with their family and friends, so as the meal was about to be served, I packed up. The newlyweds didn’t want me to capture that side of the evening, and that was absolutely fine. But it was a pleasure to be part of a wedding with such a lovely back-story, all the wedding guests clearly had a fantastic time and it certainly made for wonderful photos.
