A glorious summers day in the Lake District at Fae & Chris’s wedding.
A stunning Lakeland summer wedding
Upon speaking with Fae and Chris it became clear that they were enamoured by the Merewood and it’s location, so much so that the fact they lived over a two hour drive away in Manchester, was seen as a minor detail in planning their wedding day. Retaining many of its original 18th century details the Merewood has undergone restoration but still boasts a magnificent panelled hall and reception alongside large, luxurious guest rooms. Sat high on a hillside overlooking Lake Windermere, guests can’t fail to be impressed by this venues character, comfort and not least it’s location.
The Merewood isn’t huge, but still appears grand on arrival, but it is also small enough to feel intimate and relaxed. A special mention must go to the fantastic staff who couldn’t do enough for the couple, let alone all the guests, and this wedding
Emotion (and fun) overlooking Windermere
Arriving early, I took a stroll around the gardens of the Merewood, and couldn’t help but be impressed by it’s beauty. Set amongst trees and lawns sweeping down to Lake Windermere, it has to be one of the most beautiful wedding venues in the north of England. Many guests had stayed the night, by virtue of the fact many of them had travelled from Manchester. Wedding preparation with Fae and her bridesmaids was the first photographic job of the day, and the wonderful large, panelled bedrooms ensured there was plenty of opportunity to capture great photos of the girls enjoying themselves getting ready. There was also time to catch sight of the groom getting ready with his mates, and whilst a little nervous, was helped along by his friends with a beer to calm the nerves!
On to the service, and there were a number of guests for whom the whole event became very emotional. I was certain these were tears of joy, but then confirmed by the sound of laughter that accompanied the rest of the ceremony! Once all the legalities were done, Fae and Chris wanted a few group shots outside the Merewood, and with a spectacular vista of Lake Windermere, from the lawns of the Hotel, it would have been crazy not to! The newlyweds then relaxed with their guests in the sunshine on the patio area. It was a beautiful evening to work as a wedding photographer, and the soft light and beautifully warm weather ensured that I was able to capture plenty of candid images of family and friends enjoying themselves.
Lets get the party started
Following a buffet meal, the night’s got in to full swing and after the first dance, there were plenty of people that just couldn’t be moved from the dancefloor! Guests were definitely making an effort to enjoy themselves, and the happy couple were no exception! Fae and Chris took a breather as the sun went down and we managed some beautiful ‘golden hour’ photos as well as a few frames of them relaxing on their own in the laid-back summer atmosphere.
More evening guests began to arrive and it became clear that this was going to be a big night, as the DJ got the party started and the drinks started flowing freely! I managed a few photos of everybody enjoying themselves before calling it a night with the camera. Fae and Chris were a wonderful couple to work with, and I’m so happy they chose me to photograph their wonderful wedding day.
